TED Talk: Angela Lee Duckworth | Grit: The power of passion and perseverance In her instant New York Times bestseller Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance (2016), pioneering psychologist Angela Duckworth suggests that it’s as important to work hard as it is to be a natural talent. Specifically, those who were deemed more influential and successful than their counterparts. Building upon prominent leaders in history, scientists and researchers have reached similar conclusions about high achieving individuals. Grit is defined as perseverance and passion for long-term goals. What happens if you add the factor of ‘grit’ to the mix? Let’s Investigate: What is Grit? Traditionally, the high-achievers, leaders, and successful entrepreneurs were believed to share a set of traits such as conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, and openness to experience – also known as the Big Five. It is used in measuring everyone from top-ranked university to elementary school students, from scientists to entrepreneurs. Today, Duckworth’s idea of measuring the chance for success by combining a person’s passion and perseverance has spread around the world. Rather than letting your interest be an intense burst of firecrackers that vanishes into vapor, let your passion be a compass instead, guiding you on a long winding route to your ultimate goal. When Angela Duckworth first started investigating the grit psychology less than ten years ago, she left everyone wondering: could this really be the bold new idea for predicting success or is it just another self-help sensation? It’s hard to maintain that passion over a consistent period of time without giving up.īecause people have different scores, this suggests passion and perseverance are different things. It’s easy to get attracted to a new idea. People tend to be better at working hard than at maintaining a consistent focus. For your perseverance score, add up the even-numbered items.Ĭhances are, your perseverance score is higher than your passion score. Grit has two components: passion and perseverance, and the questions actually correspond to both.įor your passion score, add up the odd-numbered items above. How do you stack up against the population? Here’s the different percentiles of Angela Duckworth’s grit scale across the population: Percentile The higher your score, then the more grit you have. Now add up your score – there’s a possible total of 50.
Then I tryed to use both default and profile-specific ini files to the same effect.Īs you said, I checked and double-checked all ini changes, and their contents is exactly the same as FAQ states. So I moved default location of that folder to a different hard drive, and FNV actually managed to change and save its ini files.ĭuring the installation of TTW it did not create a fallout_custom.ini under my account, but under administrator one, so I copyed all changes to both manually created fallout_custom.ini in Documents folder and fallout_custom.ini in MO2 profile folder. I had issues with ini files the first time I tryed to launch clean FNV, because Windows did not allow any application to access Documents folder, including FNV. So thanks in advence for any advice or thought on the matter! I really loved playing TTW on my old laptop, and appreciated all the great effort the team has put into this project. Serching for information in the Internet did not bear any fruit. I have also tried to run game as admin, or install it under the admin account, rather then limited one. However, I did not change any mod configuration fily malually. To clarify, I have reinstalled Steam, FNV, TTW, and MO2 multuple times on different drives, launched game via nvse_loader.exe, but nothing helped. In conclusion, it seemed that NVSE loads some. TickFix and One Tweak worked fine, but MCM failed. log files NVSE started successfully, JIP LN too, but ttw_nvse.log was created, but ended up empty, so I concluded that it is something with ttw_nvse.dll.Īfter that I checked other NVSE plugins, all installed via MO2. It seems that ttw_nvse.dll did not work properly. After that F3 intro played, and the game started in Doc Mithell's house in Mojave. It was a TTW main menu screen, so it could not be a MO2 malfunction, as it successfully created virtual file system.Īfter choosing "New Game", FNV intro movie was played, then loading screen appeared. NVAC, however, allowed to load main menu. Using an advice from FAQ (checking for UI mods, or using UIO) did nothing. Game crashed after slides at the moment menu had to appear. Game started via MO2 using FalloutNV.exe, as FAQ states that FalloutNV.exe is patched to load NVSE automatically. 55.41) JIP LN plugin was installed via MO2. TTW was installed in a separate folder, updated to 3.2.1 and 3.2.2, then packed into zip archive, and installed via MO2. I have performed clean install of the operatirng system, FNV, F3, MO2, and TTW, following GamerPoets guide and the FAQ for v. Like Amity, the academic delivery is by external tutors. £12,000 AACSB and AMBA accredited Global MBA from Hull. Deakin awards an MBA while IMT grants a PGDM: - The AACSB-accredited MBA at Missouri State is now available only for students in the USA. (Uiry says this programme stopped admitting new students in 2023) - $10,000 Two AACSB-accredited schools have a double-degree programme through UpGrad. It ends with a practice-based capstone rather than a research activity. I think the OU is better respected in the UK than Manchester Met, and has been running one of the largest distance-learning MBAs since the 1980s. $9000 The high-respected Open University's triple crown accredited Business School has a budget option where tuition is delivered by Amity, a private Indian university with US regional accredition. $5000 Amity is a private Indian university with US regional accreditation, a fairly high standard. However, at only 17% more than the MicroMasters I think this is better value) - The LSE graduate-entry BSc in management has new pricing, making the graduate track much less attractive than a triple crown MBA. $2940 the University of the People MBA (has US national accreditation, which isn't the highest. $0 A Coursera specialization - The Maryland MBA Micromasters closed in 2021. Affordable options don't stay available for long, so seize the day. Below are some of the better alternatives I know to an unaccredited MBA at a few price points. People get seduced by glamourous-sounding foreign schools, many of which are almost unknown in the institution's supposed home city. Sadly, most people don't realize that an MBA from a terrible school, lacking any respected international accreditation, is worse than an alternative business education from a better school, both in terms of educational value and value perception by the most desirable employers. However, there's a wide range of price points below there. Illinois's iMBA and Wisconsin's Web MBA are arguably better designed and have a higher value. A weakening pound means that British schools may seem discounted, with past or current FT-ranked business schools at Aston, Bradford, the Open University, Oxford Brookes and RGU around $22k (And Manchester Met and the OU, via Amity, mush less). Most of the cheapest triple-crown distance learning MBAs are around $14k to $25k (see below for the OUBS MBA special pricing through Amity, and the Deakin MBA). Sadly, not everyone is able to make that investment, and many of those who are able to are not prepared to take the risk. A high-quality MBA will increase your lifetime earnings by a huge amount, equal to many years' earnings. Naturally, none of these is a better investment than an excellent MBA. In this thread, I'd love to pool our ideas about the best-value alternatives at different price points. However, the industrial effort employed in marketing below-average, for-profit schools has never been more effective at concealing them. High-quality, low-budget, alternatives to triple-crown MBAs have never been better. A minimum of 15 minutes of exercise a day is also encouraged.īefore starting a diet plan, special considerations should be made if you have pre-existing conditions. It reassures you can eat out while on the plan as well. GOLO also provides eating guidelines, encouraging you to eat more whole foods (including fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs and grains) while avoiding sugar and processed foods. While everyone has the same food guidelines, your specific caloric intake recommendation is based on your gender, age, current weight and activity level. People on the GOLO diet receive booklets outlining the metabolic program, which recommends consuming 1,300 to 1,800 calories a day across three meals (and each meal is followed by a Release capsule). While the website does list studies confirming the safety of Release and efficacy of the GOLO diet for weight loss, it’s worth noting that both pilot studies and those published are funded or sponsored by GOLO in some way and the subject pools were very small. There are a few recommended foods-and some discouraged foods-which is common for many diets. GOLO says on their plan, you actually “stop dieting.” Instead, you simply take Release, which the company claims helps regulate insulin, prodding your body to lose weight without calorie counting or restrictive eating. By addressing insulin resistance-in part with the supplement-GOLO claims to speed up your metabolism, resulting in fat loss. Instead, you must purchase their supplement, Release, in order to access materials they refer to as the “Metabolic Plan.” As Petersen notes, the aim of the GOLO diet is to address and lower increased blood sugar levels that are caused by insulin resistance, which is associated with the eventual development of cardiovascular disease. The website offers limited information about the specifics of the GOLO diet. “Its goal is to manage your insulin levels, thereby normalizing your metabolism and hormones.” Programs range from 30 to 90 days. “The GOLO diet is an approach to weight loss designed to be used short-term,” says certified functional medicine practitioner Vikki Petersen, who’s also a certified clinical nutritionist and founder and executive director of Root Cause Medical Clinic, which has clinics based in California and Florida. In fact, the website doesn’t identify any specific healthcare personnel. The theory behind this diet is to achieve weight loss by speeding up your metabolism by reducing insulin resistance-which causes an increase of blood sugar-in order to prevent health conditions related to weight gain.Īs for the creators, the company’s website says the team consists of “dedicated doctors, pharmacists and researchers.” However, the only specific individuals listed include the CEO and president, both of which have sales and marketing backgrounds and are not doctors or registered dietitian nutritionists themselves. While there is some flexibility in what you can eat on the GOLO diet, the plan requires a specific supplement from GOLO, LLC, the company that created the diet in 2009. Unlike other diets, such as the keto diet or Mediterranean diet, the GOLO diet isn’t so much a way of eating as it is a specific diet plan. With stored payment methods, clients provide credit card or bank account information to the firm, along with a preauthorization for payment. One of the quickest ways for law firms to secure compensation is stored payments, coupled with running batch payments. A payment link that accompanies electronic invoices also promotes faster payment. A website payment option is a good tool, but an individual client portal is even better. But the method of collecting those electronic payments also significantly affects the amount of time between invoicing and payment. For example, the acceptance of credit cards and electronic payments can be far more effective for faster payments than limiting payments to paper checks or cash. Some payment methods are better suited than others for helping law firms keep their collection numbers high and the Account Receivables (AR) low. Whatever the client’s reasoning, law firms that offer electronic payment options are better positioned to receive the benefits. Some clients feel more secure using credit cards, while others appreciate the ability to pay off their legal fees over time. It is much easier and more convenient to pay a law firm invoice from the comfort of home, or even on the go. Legal clients do not like spending extra time delivering their payments to a physical office or mailbox. For firms that send out electronic invoices, an integrated electronic payment system can also speed up payments and streamline the accounting process.Įlectronic payments can also help law firms improve client relations. With a credit card payment, the funds can be transferred to the appropriate account within minutes, which promotes positive cashflow within the firm. Electronic payments save law firms a significant amount of time by eliminating the need to transfer cash to the bank or wait for a paper check to clear. Law firms can benefit in numerous ways from the acceptance of electronic payments. DL Iridient Developer (3.2) For Macos 10.11 Iptorrents DecemDL Iridient Developer (3.2) For Macos 10.11 Iptorrents Messages+ is an update of the messaging enhancement app TLert. Instead of having to exit out of an app a quick reply keyboard pops up, you type your message, away it goes, and you're back to whatever you were doing before without interruption. Apps like BiteSMS and Messages+ aim to close that gap with quick reply functionality. While multitasking in iOS 4 made switching between applications a lot easier, you still have to completely exit whatever you're doing to reply to a text message. Each also have free trials so if you still can't decide, you can always try both before deciding. To help you decide which one may appeal to you more, you can check out our LockInfo vs IntelliscreenX comparison. Choose the one that's personally right for you. LockInfo is one of the original notification enhancement apps and still manages to be one of the best.īoth apps are great notification enhancers but they differ in some areas and feature sets. There are tons of extensions, add-ons, and themes available for it. It does support iRealSMS, QuickReply, and BiteSMS so you've got a bit of choice. If you'd like to add enhancement to your messaging app you'll have to buy them separately as LockInfo doesn't come bundled with anything. From here you can add contacts, quick toggles, and lots of other information. You can replace Notification Center with LockInfo's well-known Infoshade to add even more control over information. LockInfo also allows you to access a lot of the same information as IntelliscreenX does but it a bit more customizable from my experience. If you are a BiteSMS fan, it also supports that as well. So for only $2 more you get both programs. You can even place phone contacts in Notification Center for quick access.Ī huge plus of IntelliscreenX is that it comes bundled with Intelliborn's popular messaging enhancement app Messages+, which is normally $7.99 on its own. This is a convenient place to stick SBSettings or any other toggles you may find yourself using quite often. IntelliscreenX takes it one step further and adds a "top shelf" that allows you to add quick toggles you can access with a quick swipe down on notification center. IntelliscreenX gives you the ability to add widgets and other information to your lockscreen and notification center. I like them to stay there until I dismiss them myself. I've never been a fan of how iOS 5 discards notifications from the lockscreen immediately after unlocking. This is where apps like LockInfo and IntelliscreenX step in to give you even more control over how notifications are handled. While iOS 5 added a ton of enhancements to the way notifications are handled and presented, Apple still left a lot of room for improvement. $0.99 - Cydia Search Link Notification enhancement apps No more choosing between only four apps to stick in your dock.Īdds contact pictures to your address book next to each contact. Infinifolders - $1.99 - Cydia Search Link InfinidockĪdd endless amounts of icons to your dock and scroll through them. Both are great apps so the decision on which one to go with is really up to you.įolderEnhancer - $1.99 - Cydia Search Link Add as many apps as you want and customize folder behavior. If you want to stick more than 12 apps into a single folder or nest folders, either of these two apps will get the job done by basically removing Apple's folder limitation. If you don't need anything but quick toggles, NCSettings is a great choice and more visually appealing than SBSettings since it integrates right into the top row of Notification Center and blends in perfectly.įree - Download Now FolderEnhancer and Infinifolders While many long time jailbreakers have been fans of SBSettings, there's a new guy in town that does toggles in a much more refined way than SBSettings under iOS 5 and that's NCSettings. All with a simple swipe on your status bar. It also allows you to monitor free memory and clear it out. If you want a quick toggle to turn off SMS alerts, you've got it. SBSettings has a limitless amount of toggles available in Cydia and can be customized and tweaked until your heart's content. Who likes to tap all the way into Settings to disable Wifi or 3G? I know I don't when I can just use SBSettings to disable it with two taps from virtually anywhere on my iPhone. You can also recolour existing art using the palette, but make sure it’s art that fits your use case. Know what you want to create with this palette, and test it in an appropriate scenario. As soon as you have a few colours, sketch a mock-up with them, and test test test everything. It’s perfectly fine if in isolation, your darkest green looks dark blue and your lightest green looks yellow.ĭon’t create palettes in isolation. 4-5 per ramp is a good number for large sprites and props, but is too much for 16x16 sprites, for example, where 2-3 is usually all you can fit.ĭon’t be afraid to push your hue-shifting. Larger sprites generally need more shades of each colour to look smooth, and the darkest regular shadow doesn’t need to be as dark, while smaller sprites generally can only fit fewer shades and generally need greater contrast (usually darker shadows) for the colours to actually be readable. When designing palettes, it helps to work on a canvas where you can have the colours arranged in these ramps, instead of just a swatch list.Ĭonsider what you’ll be drawing with your palette. For example, a deep orange could be a mid-red, and the darkest point of each ramp might be the same purple. To have fewer colours and give your art more unity, try to have these ramps intersect. Try to think in terms of ramps, your various colours going from dark to light. It’s common to use a warm main light and a purplish ambient colour because these work decently well in most scenarios a game will have, which saves the artist the trouble of making differently coloured versions of the sprite for each location. The hue your lights shift towards will read as your light source’s colour, and the hue your darks shift towards will read as your ambient light colour. You’ll generally want to pick consistent hues for this. Here’s a screenshot of my very own palette that I made using these steps:Ĭhanging the hue for the darks and lights is called “hue shifting”. Also don’t be afraid to use colors from other tones (like using the dark yellows as your bright browns) or making colors that are less or more than your predefined amount, should you need to. Don’t be afraid to make transition colors between two tones or anything else you might need or feel limited by not having. This is because how light works in the real world - the sun casts a warm yellowish light, because its blue spectrum gets scattered in the atmosphere and is reflected only in the shadows, giving them a cooler hue (this is why the sky is blue btw). Generally, brighter tones will go a bit towards red/yellow (warmer tones), and darker tones will go towards blue/purple (cooler tones). This is what makes palettes good - the hue shift between shades of the same color. Now change the saturation and value sliders, according to what you need, but don’t forget to change the hue a little bit aswell. I’d highly recommend using the HSV sliders (press F4 and switch to HSV tab). For example, if you want to go with 5 shades per color, make 2 brighter and 2 darker tones of your base color.
